MISSION STATEMENT |
|
|
|
The Huron Police Department is a different kind of law enforcement
agency. It is comprised of men and women who have chosen to serve
this community, even though the job is difficult, the hours are long
and at times, even your best efforts go seemingly unnoticed. These
officers are dedicated to the belief that their work as a peace
officer is one ordained by God and one of the most honorable and
vital professions in the field of public service.
The principal
mission of the Huron Police Department is to safeguard the
constitutional rights of its residents, be ever vigilant in the
prevention and detection of crime and employ a forward-thinking
police administration who anticipates response to potential events
that jeopardize public peace and threaten both life and property.
However, our commitment to the community doesn’t just stop there.
Our staff is dedicated to providing the
very highest
levels of service to the community, regardless of immigration
status, ethnicity or religious orientation. Our administrators,
supervisors, officers and support staff shall at all times perform
their services with honesty, courage, discretion and sound judgment.
We are constantly evolving to meet the ever changing dynamics of the
community that we serve.
Our officers will strive to provide service to our residents in
their native language, whenever possible, and be sensitive to the
unique needs of our diverse community. Our officers will enforce
the law fairly and objectively, all the while keeping the public
peace and ensuring the rights of all persons to the peaceful
enjoyment of their daily lives. In meeting these objectives, it is
our duty to work in cooperation with federal, state and local
authorities, school officials and community support groups to not
only enforce the law and keep the peace, but to promote a better
understanding of and increased confidence in our efforts to provide
service excellence to the community.
Character, Competence & Commitment; these are not just
words for us. They represent the core values that we believe in.

| EXPLORER
PROGRAM/POST#339 |
| |
|
Historically the City of Huron had an
active Explorer Program 38 years ago. However, the program was
disbanded due to a lack of resources. As of March 27, 2009,
Officer Miguel Gomez took charge as the Explorer Coordinator and
Officer Levi Reitsma is assigned as the Post#339's new Explorer
Advisor. Officer Reitsma will be handling the day to day
activities of the Explorers. Post#339 currently has seven
members. The ranks are filled with teenagers that have an
interest in law enforcement and a desire to serve the Community of
Huron. |

 |
| |
| NEIGHBORHOOD
WATCH PROGRAM |
| |
|
Throughout the years, the City of
Huron did not have the available resources to establish a functional
neighborhood watch program. Now, with the active support of
the community and a strong partnership with the Police Department, a
new program has been established. Under the direction of
Officer Gil Garza, the Neighborhood Watch Program will assist the
police in deterring criminal activity.
The Community of Huron has an
important part of deterring criminal activity. The support of
the strong community will aid the police department in fighting
crime. |

| RESERVE PROGRAM
|
| |
|
The Huron Police Reserve Officers are volunteers,
who have completed the same training and mandated requirements that
the State of California requires to become full time police
officers. The reserve officers assist the Huron Police
Department by providing services for special events, patrol, and
many other duties as a full time officer would do. The reserve
officers donate a minimum of 24 hours per month to support all areas
of police operations.
The City of Huron Reserve Unit consists of one
sergeant, one corporal, and eight officers: |
